Trips to Paris are a treasure trove of inspiration. We definitely caught the antiquing bug on our most recent venture to the city of light, and our collection of Paris-inspired projects definitely show it. We love the feeling of authenticity and vintage charm from this funky French décor. Impromptu trips far-away continents aren’t exactly wallet-friendly, and these DIY crafts are perfect for when you want to add a soupcon of European flair without blowing your budget.
We love the idea of combining vintage ceramic plates with the high-impact look of gold metallic paint. We chose plates with a French-provincial aesthetic and then kicked them up a notch with metallic accents. The result is a gallery wall that blends the contemporary and the rustic for a pretty nice “wow” factor.
Old countryside maps, vintage photography, and tea-stained postcards were used to transform this simple side table into a Parisian masterpiece. We applied a darker basecoat of FolkArt Home Décor chalk and then followed up with a blush-colored paint that we distressed before using Mod Podge to layer on the imagery. Finally, a thin coat of antiquing wax turned this piece of furniture into a piece fit for the French countryside.
This charming hand-mirror immediately caught our eye, and we knew that with a few touches of paint, we could turn it into a vanity must-have. We used a deft hand and FolkArt Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic paints in an assortment of blue hues to add a fabulous floral embellishment to the back of the mirror. It’s a vintage find that’s both functional and graceful.
We scored big with a book of French illustrations that we just couldn’t resist. It just screamed “pastoral charm” and we couldn’t ignore the call. We used cut-outs from the vintage book to create both a fun photo transfer onto a throw pillow, as well as a sweet glass menagerie that would look oh-so dear as a skillfully placed home décor accent.
It’s entirely possible to imbue your home with a little Parisian panache without having to travel overseas to get it. Locally sourced antiques, or even store-bought pieces, can be revamped and revitalized to create a taste of the Belle Epoque in your living room.
